FAQ — Backdrop

Common questions about Backdrop as a Discord roleplay map, lore wiki, and timeline.

What is Backdrop?

Backdrop is a Discord roleplay map, lore wiki, and timeline platform. Admins upload map art, place pins with lore, optionally publish a wiki and timeline, and share live /map and /wiki links with players. It works in the browser and can open as a Discord Activity.

Is Backdrop a Discord RP map tool?

Yes. Backdrop is built for Discord roleplay and play-by-post servers that need one shared geography—interactive layers, location pins, scene rosters, and optional MultiMuse presence—instead of a static Google Drawing.

Does Backdrop include a wiki and timeline?

Yes. Worlds can enable a lore wiki for articles and categories, plus a timeline for campaign history. Players open them at /wiki/your-slug and /wiki/your-slug/timeline when published.

How does Backdrop work with MultiMuse?

Backdrop is the “where on the map is this scene?” layer. You can link pins to Discord channels or categories so MultiMuse scene presence lines up with places on the map. MultiMuse still handles character posting; Backdrop holds the geography.

Can players open the map without Discord login?

Yes. Public map and wiki links work in a browser without signing in, unless the admin adds a viewer password. Editors sign in with Discord to build.

How do I start a Discord roleplay map?

Sign in with Discord on backdrop.quest, create a world from the dashboard, open World Builder, add a map layer and a few pins, then share your /map/your-slug link. The documentation walks through roles, publishing, and passwords.
